Bream will eat just about anything when they're on the beds. Small earthworms, crickets, grass shrimp, and tiny artificials are productive baits. Whatever the bait, match the hook to the bream's pea-sized mouth. Use short-shank hooks if fishing's slow, long shank for easier hook removal if they're biting readily. In very clear water, smaller hooks and ultralight line, down to 2-pound-test, are sometimes necessary to outsmart whopper bream. Most baits work best with no weight, or, if your boat is drifting, with a tiny split shot. Use the smallest float you can readily see.
