To get a fishing year off to a good start with fast action, target white bass runs in rivers above many lakes. The white bass begin their spawning runs in the winter, well ahead of the spring season for bass. The earliest run in Texas occurs during January in the Rio Grande River at San Ignacio above Falcon Lake. The white bass are easy to catch and have generous limits. Try casting small jigs and rattletrap type lures around eddies, cut banks and the intersections with creeks.
